AFWERX Selects SigOpt as a Leader in Machine Learning Operations

SigOpt has a long track record of supporting the mission-critical modeling work of the U.S. Government. In recognition of this work, AFWERX, the catalyst for fostering innovation within the U.S. Air Force, selected SigOpt as the only provider of machine learning operations solutions to exhibit at EngageSpace, a two-day virtual event on September 29-30 for Space Industry innovation. SigOpt was one of 178 companies selected out of over 800 companies that were considered to participate.

“The solutions submitted for these space challenges represent the bleeding edge of space innovation,” stated Brennan Townley, AFWERX Challenge Collaboration Lead. “We’re excited to highlight these innovators and connect them with opportunities across the Space ecosystem.”

SigOpt began working with a variety of agencies through a partnership with In-Q-Tel in 2017, and expanded our relationship in 2019. SigOpt also won a SBIR Phase I award from AFWERX in March of 2020 and has earned approval to contract on the GSA schedule. SigOpt’s Model Experimentation Platform enables a wide variety of modelers to track their modeling process, analyze training runs, and automate hyperparameter optimization as they develop any model at any scale. This SigOpt-enabled model development process improves team efficiency, boosts modeling scale, and, ultimately, increases their confidence in the performance of mission-critical models they plan to put into production.

“SigOpt offers an advanced and scalable solution capable of impacting the performance of any type of AI model,” says George Hoyem, Managing Partner at IQT. “Whether working on simulations, reinforcement learning, deep neural networks, machine learning or anything in between, researchers can use SigOpt to track, analyze, and tune their models. We are excited to partner with them again to further accelerate use of their solution within the Intelligence Community.”

The EngageSpace event will feature highly engaging opportunities to connect, educate and innovate with other like-minded attendees, industry leaders, individual innovators, academia, investors, as well as military and government leaders. The entire event is designed to transform and accelerate the industry, and enable government buyers to pursue the most promising innovative solutions to the most pressing and threatening Space scenarios.

“SigOpt’s mission to accelerate and amplify the impact of modelers everywhere is well aligned with the DoD’s approach to machine learning,” says SigOpt CEO Scott Clark. “Teams across a variety of organizations in the US Government rely on SigOpt for machine learning operations, including tracking runs, automating hyperparameter optimization, and understanding model behavior. We look forward to building on this momentum through our partnership with In-Q-Tel, considerable progress with SBIR, and through the GSA approval we recently received.”

About AFWERX

Established in 2017, AFWERX is a product of the U.S. Air Force, directly envisioned by former Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson. Her vision of AFWERX — to solve some of the toughest challenges that the Air Force faces through innovation and collaboration amongst our nation’s top subject matter experts. AFWERX serves as a catalyst to unleash new approaches for the warfighter through a growing ecosystem of innovators. AFWERX and the U.S. Air Force are committed to exploring viable solutions and partnerships to further strengthen the Air Force, which could lead to additional prototyping, R&D, and follow-on production contracts.

Fast Company named AFWERX Best Workplaces for Innovators on the 2020 List, honoring the top 100 businesses and organizations that demonstrate a deep commitment to encouraging innovation at all levels. AFWERX, U.S. Air Force’s innovation arm and catalyst for fostering innovation within the Air Force, came in at #16 ranking in the top 20 alongside brands such as Microsoft, Google, and Amazon.
